The radio hums to life as the CP calls us. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Gun Truck Two, we need you to come back so the NCOIC can unleash the goat.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d We all look at the radio with puzzled looks on our faces. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153What?\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u0153The NCOIC needs to release a goat. He needs an escort over the wire.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u0153What kind of goat is this?\u00e2\u20ac\u009d <\/p>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u0153A bah, bah, black sheep kind.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u0153This isn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t another kind of goat is it? Because that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s three kicks and that isn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t cool.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n
We go back in to the base and I look in the NCOIC\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Hummer; no goat. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Where\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s the goat?\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u0153In the trunk.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d He pops the trunk a little and a goat head looks out. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Baaaahhh,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d it bleats. I snap a picture.<\/p>\n
The local herder slowly and sheepishly comes up along the canal looking for his goat. He goes on and on to the interpreter about how his goat wandered off. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s not his fault, since he told the goat not to do that. Some goats just don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t listen. Please, is there anything that we can do to help him and it really isn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t his fault. He doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t want any trouble, just his goat back.<\/p>\n
We pop open the trunk of the Hummer. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Surprise! Look what we found!\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Baaaahhh.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n
The herder lifts the goat out of the trunk, all smiles. He then walks back along the canal, holding the goat by the scruff of the neck and the hindquarter, kicking and kneeing the beast the whole way to his herd. A woman with him, presumably his wife, stands across the canal, passively taking in the whole scene.<\/p>\n
I turn to the NCOIC. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I want goat herder to be on my next NCO evaluation report.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d He laughs.<\/p>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u0153You know”, I continue, “that goat made a mess in the back of the truck. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s going to stink for days. There is goat shit everywhere.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u0153It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s the gravel yard truck. You didn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t think that I would use my truck, did you?\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n
On the way back to the road, we report to the CP that Goat Truck Two is now set in position. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Goat herding makes the day go so much faster,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d I comment.<\/p>\n
